My wife and I are having our differences...she likes the more traditional spelling of Abigail and I think it should be made a little more modern like Abygail. Help!

Abygail is incorrect and looks so! Some names can have different spellings, Like Catherine/Kathryn/Kathrine/Cathryn etc. But Abigail is one of those names that has to be Abigail! Also, it will earn her the nickname Aby, which doesn't look balanced.

Also, the spell check considers Abygail, and Aby incorrect, but Abigail and Abby correct, so thinkn about that. how annoying would it be to always have to press "Ignore" when spell-checking on a computer, when you have your name on the paper???

We leaned towards a more unique way of spelling our 4 children's names as well. Have you considered Abigayle or maybe Abagail? Our youngest child was conceived when I had been taking birth control pills for 11 years (SURPRISE!). Our older kids were 18, 15, and 12 so they had developed some pretty strong feelings about certain names. It was quite the chore picking out a baby name with 5 people expressing their opinions on the matter! It took us nearly until delivery day (I was glad she didn't come early!) to all agree on a name we all liked. Then, we had to figure out how to spell it. We all liked the name Lydia so we wrote down all the possible spellings we could think of to see how each looked with our last name. In the end, we all agreed on Lydea. If your wife isn't too keen on the idea of a uniquely spelled first name maybe you can compromise on a uniquely spelled middle name or maybe a nickname like Abbi or Abbee?

Abigail for sure...I don't think Abygail works as well. They're both cute though!

My oldest daughters name is Madyson. We have a 3 month old little girl and her name is Abigail and I was going to spell her name with a y but I decided on the tradition spelling because I see how much trouble my oldest daughter has with the spelling of her name.

:( I like the name Abygail, it's my name too! A very unique and differentiated spelling, and anyone will know who they are.
