Rick Santorum is at it again with the Islamo Facsist crapola He's Sponsored by nimrod David Horowitz, but I ask you who are the real fascists?
As an actual college professor, Juan Cole of the University of Michigan, has noted, the Islamo-Fascism label makes no sense:
Fascism is not even a very good description of the ideology of most Muslim fundamentalists. Most fascism in the Middle East has been secular in character, as with Saddam Hussein’s Baath Party. Fascism involves extreme nationalism and most often racism. Muslim fundamentalist movements reject the nation-state as their primary loyalty and reject race as a basis for political action or social discrimination. Fascists exalt the state above individual rights or the rule of law. Muslim fundamentalists exalt Islamic law above the utilitarian interests of the state. Fascism exalts youth and a master race above the old and the “inferior” races. Muslim fundamentalists would never speak this way.

you make a good case. those that refer to "Islamofascists" might have a good understanding or radical Islamic terrorists, but they clearly do not know what a fascist is. the real Muslim terrorists are more akin to violent fundamentalists of all stripes...their loyalty is not to a state or government, rather to an ideology and religion.
Fascism is an extreme nationalism, which begins, like a virus, to show symptoms before its full spread is complete. one of its earliest warning signs of infection is a common hostility for personal freedoms and rights, extreme and blind patriotism, and loyalty to party or person rather than law and due process. does this sound like any major world power at present to you?

Fascim is government under a police state, where the police are the military.
The purpose of the Police is to protect the people from each other. The purpose of the military is to protect the nation from it's enemies. When the military are the police, the people are the enemy.
The Islamist movement in the MIddle east favors a theocratic oligarchy, much like the type of givernment common in the European middle ages. The Islamists are a minority faction among the Islamic fundamentalists, and the fundamentalists themselves are a minority of the followers of Islam.
The neoconservative movement in the US, favors the establishment of an aristocratic republic, a system where an elite minority, as decide by wealth and nepotism, are enfrancised to make laws that apply to everyone but themselves.(A republic is government by law). Oddly enough, they seem opposed to the fact that the US was founded as a democratic republic, where the laws are agreed upon by the population and the laws are applied to everone equally.
Neither of them are Fascist.
Neither of them consider the needs of the people.

I think both sides are pretty much into the same thing. You can quibble about the exact definition of "fascism" all you want - that technically fascists are committed to an ideology that revolves around extreme nationalism and race. The way it plays out, I don't think it really matters.
Is an extreme religious ideology of "Islam, Islam uber alles," really all that different than fascism? Does the fact that Muslim fundamentalists are committed to a new Islamic Empire and the destruction of the West in the name of religion make this attitude substantially different from a secular fascist agenda, or the GOP fascist agenda, religious or otherwise?

Fascism is an extreme and radical form of nationalism. While many conservatives are somewhat nationalistic, none in office come anywhere near fascism (if they do, they are really poor, unsuccesful, ineffective fascists). Islamists, OTOH, are politicised religious fanatics, since religion, rather than nationalism is the focus, they are not, strictly speaking, fascists, either.
So, if all you're really scared of is fascism, you can rest easy.

Webster's unabridged: fascism
b : any tendency toward or actual exercise of severe autocratic or dictatorial control (as over others within an organization)
Sounds like life under Sharia law to me. Cons are not for the state rights over individual. Who supports the second amendment, Cons or Libs? Who supports the rights of the unborn, Cons or Libs? Who wants greater individual economic freedom, Cons or Libs? Who supports outlawing racism (AKA affirmative action), Cons or Libs? It is Libs who want the government to tell the people how to manage each and every detail of their lives all in the name of [safety, equality, fill in the current buzzword here].

Well it certainly isn't American Conservatives, so who else could it be?
the meaning of fascist has been construed over time, kinda like the meaning of Nazi. However if I had to choose one to hangout with I'd rather hangout with a conservative american over a Muslim fundamentalist. However I might choose the extremist Muslim over one of those crazy liberals.
