Lots of reasons...they could be jealous of your looks, relationship, intelligence, etc...insecure and think they need to look tough..or they could just be mean girls who get a thrill out of making life bad for others. either way, cut them out of your life, you'll be so much happier

First of all, its our nature (yours too honey).
When you stand back and take a look, women are harder creatures to figure out then men. We are complicated, and we are wired completely differently than men.
I don't know how old you are, but you will find as you get older that things don't get much better in the female world, HOWEVER its easier to judge who is your true friend and not.
Jealousy is a major factor not only in the world of girls :) Its just... how we are. Obviously though, for these people to be running off at the mouth about you, they REALLY are not your friends... Perhaps they are upset because you've "ditched" them and focused your entire attention to this new friend.
Try and keep your circle of friends broad, and don't be too judgemental on people who you may have less in common with than others... You may need to count on these friends one day for something... :) Hope this helps.
P.S. Confront the issue of them talking about you behind your back.... It will help clear the air. (Only if you wish to remain friends with these girls)

Jealousy;
Emotionally, girls are all about relationships. Relationships withe other girls as friends, relationships with boys, with family, in the movies, in the soaps, and in talk TV. They always talk about and deal with relationships.
Boys, on the other hand, do not concern themselves so much with relationships as with objects.
Juvenile girls, especially, feel threatened in their relationship with another when a third party enters the scene. They like exclusivity. They will accept others into the "clique", only so long as they do not form one-on-one relationships with another member of the clique.
Yes, they are complicated! I just wouldn't call them "bitches", even though they may act like one.

Because we are wrapped in hormones and mood swings. Plus women deal with things differently than men. While men take their anger out in a punch and some physical stress relief, women ball it up and take it out vocally which provides no stress relief. So we are naturally more moody.

if you're still in high school it's common. Just get away fromthem, cause all they're gonna do is talk bad about you when you don't do what they want/like and pretend to be your friends when you do things they do want/like. It's childish. Real friends don't get down like that.

tths exactly why i get on better with guys. none of this two faced bitchiness. with guys its just a punch or two and its over. girls are way worse - can do such nasty spiteful things. guess some of them are just over indulged brats with no consideration for other people. they will always be beaten in the end tho :-)

Its just how girls are.
they're not happy til someone suffers.
i know it must suck but forget about her
and hang with the other friend.
The two girls who acted like your friends,
are fake and backstabbers.
find some friends who are true friends.

Jealousy. Maybe they have problems making friends and are jealous of you being able to. If they treat you like that, you might want to spend more time with your new friend and less with them.

We need to be to protect ourselves. Girls are nasty. I know when someone crosses me I am scary. Like my boyfriend makes me leave the room because I get SO nasty. I think its because we are protective of the things we love.
