I am 16 (almost 17), have a good paying job, and could be self-sufficient. I live in TN, which is the problem because there are no emancipation laws here. I want to 'divorce my parents', I guess you'd say. This is because the environment here is TOO STRESSFULL!! People yell 24/7, my step dad threatens to kill every animal I own daily, and I am always hearing about how bad my real dad is, because he can't afford child support. I always hear about how "He's always hanging out with whores" and how he's "A Loser". I'm sick of it. And whenever I say it offends me, they yell more and give me the whole "He's a dumb a**" lecture. How can I get out of this house?? Some people say "Oh, every kid is unhappy with their parents' rules." Well you've never met my family, or you'd understand. Anyhow, how in the world could I get out of this house? I'm ready to just leave.

You need to file a report with Child Services about the threats - they can take you out of the house. Because of your age, if you have graduated, they may allow you to live on your own without emancipation as a ward of the state. The nice thing is they would likely help you with living expenses too.

Look in your phone book or contact your local police.

You will need to prove:
1. You are mature enough to manage your own affairs. This is demonstrated by things like a clean criminal record, good grades etc.
2. You can support yourself financially. You will need to show income and anticipated expenses.
3. That your welfare is better served by not being with your parents. Hating mom's rules will not meet this criteria.
4. That there are no other reasonable solutions to the issues at home.

You will need to hire a lawyer to get you though the process.

You would need to file in a court that has jurisdiction over your parents or custodial parent if you do not live with both.

if you can't prove physical abuse you will have an incredibly hard time getting any judge to grant you your emancipation if you're parents aren't willing to sign the paperwork. your best bet is to look for a friend or relative to take you in for a year. tell them you work and you can take care of yourself, you just need a roof over your head.

oh, but if you're really serious, talk to a school counselor about taking the high school equivalency exam. if you have "graduated" you should be able to leave.

as you said, Tennessee does not have an emancipation statute. You will either need to file a complaint with CPS or find another solution until you are 18.

Can you go live with you dad? I am sorry your mom and step dad are doing this to you, they sound like they don't care about your feelings. Call your dad and ask him if you could move in, I hope it works for you. Let your dad know what they are saying, maybe he can do something.
Good Luck!!!
