Have to write a current event on any natural hazards that have recently happened (within the last week or so). Anyone know of any earthquakes, floods, volcano eruptions, etc.

Start at the Natural Hazards images page from NASA's Earth Observatory and take your pick:

You can find images for just about any sort of natural hazard that tickles your fancy that have happened recently on that page, along with a short description that should give you enough information to find additional reference material.
