The only reason why he was made gay is because J.K. Rowling has an agenda.

Her agenda is to make it seem like it's not a sin against God to be gay. This is terrible. Think of the children.

How are we supposed to explain to them that gay people exist? (I was planning to wait until my kids turned 14)

I also heard a nasty rumor that in the Harry Potter universe evolution is supposed to be true.

Isn't this horrible?

Well, not everybody shares your religious beliefs.

And your kids will most likely learn what being gay is by the time they are in middle or high school. It's called peers, and kids generally learn a lot from them. Heck, one of them might not only what being gay is, but might also discover that he/she is gay him/herself.

Just what sort of things were you planning on teaching your kids about being gay? Anti-gay propaganda? Because if you do that, I certainly hope none of them turn out to be gay, because I sure hate to imagine what sort of self-hate that sort of propaganda will instigate.

What part of you seriously thought you could ask a question phrased in the way you have in this section without being attacked.

I fail to understand why people like yourself even bother to post in this section, it only ever appears that you have a hate agenda when it comes to gay people.

By the time your children have reached 14 they have probably found out about all the things you did not want to tell them about, and when you do the 'think of the children' bit they are probably laughing behind your back. This is no modern phenomenon either.

I, perhaps through not having not had children, seem to remember that most things about sex were no mystery by the time we were 11, and that is way back in 1975, I realised that I was gay at 12, in 1976, nobody had to tell me, I knew, and I faced the issues without my parents having any knowledge.

In 2007, with access to information as it is now, through magazines, television, newspapers, music, and of course the internet, your children are soaking up information on all the things of which you may or may not approve, and there is no way you can prevent it unless you are locking them in the basement or something similar, if they have friends at school, they find out.

As for the last comment, that rather explains it all, your religious beliefs are clouding your judgement, try asking your children what they know, don't try to correct them, listen and learn, they may just have more of a rounded and grounded view of the world than you think!

Both the straight and gay community should be outraged.

The straight community should be angry because the books were peddled as children's books yet she has introduced an adult theme to them.

The gay community should be angry because since J. K. Rowling is trying to promote "tolerance," she should have made Dumbledore gay throughout the entire HP series, not as an afterthought.

But of course the hypocrite knew her books would not have sold as nearly as well had people learned from the 1st book that the headmaster of a school of innocent boys and girls was a gay man, possibly pedophile.

The Christians got it right in banning their children from reading her books. They knew that no good could come from her writing.

Dumbledore, Gay, outraged; hell no.
Maybe you need to consider the fact that Gays and Lesbians as well as Bi's and Transgendered people have been around for hundreds of years; maybe your child hasn't been exposed to the real world yet, but soon would probably be a good time. If your child or children are school age they are more than likely to run into the GLBT issue there, where the issue can get clouded, ugly and very far from what it really is. This could lead to homophobia and that could lead to harassment and that could lead to lots of problems, legal and non.
I think that it is best for the parant/s to explain these things to their child/ren in an open minded manor. After all, in a lot of opinions HOMOPHOBIA is just another fear of the phobia, fear of the unknown. There is really nothing scary about us; we are normal people just like you with the exception that our hearts would not allow us to be limited to one gender.
My wife and I have a 3 year old son. I have been a part of his life from the age of 9 months. 2 and a half years ago my wife was married to a man. Our son knows who his father is; but hasn't seen him in over a year. (The father has chose not to call, write or even see his son.). There is nothing wrong with our son, now or in the foreseeable future. He is intelligent, loving, funny and normal, except for the fact that he has two moms.
Good luck

You can't be serious, this question must have been asked tongue in cheek. It makes it more interesting that Dumbledore is Gay. When teaching children about life it is important that they hear the positive side of others negative judgements.
Good for you Rowling, my opinion of you has reached the heights.
What possible agenda could she have but to educate the children with positive outlook instead of the judgemental and bigoted outlook some of them are getting.

And - I am a white, straight senior, so there!!!!!

Dumbledore is never called "gay" in the books.

Rowling simply uses it as a backstory for character development. It's not a big deal at all.

Please, you can think it's an agenda all you want, but do you realize how ridiculously paranoid you sound?

"OMG, it's all part of the master plan to convert the masses!" Give me a break, it's a freaking book. Being outraged is silly.

Spoken like a classic paranoid homophobe. The fact that Dumbledore is gay is never mentioned in the books. His character is not gay. Who cares?

I wish Harry Potter was gay. I've always thought he was quite hot.

As far as explaining to your kids that gay people exist, I think they will find that out on their own.

Harry Potter universe true? C'mon this whole list of questions is a joke isn't it??

This is funny! Especially the Evolution part! I can't wait to hear more details about that! Perhaps since wizarding folk can live for 150 years or more, perhaps they saw it in action? Do I smell a memoir? Watch out Darwin!

For the record, I think it's good for children to see a strong gay male character. Although he didn't appear to be a practicing homosexual- that makes it ok for some, right? And we certainly don't know if he'd ever consummated his relationship, for all we know he could be a virgin. That would restore him to his priestly status, would it not?

He wasn't "made" gay, he was BORN gay. JKR dreamnt him up. He's HER character. So when i say he was "born" gay, I mean that when she created him she knew he was gay. just like when she created harry she knew he had green eyes. when she created snape she knew he had greasy hair. it's just something she knew about her character.she chose not to put it in the book, but that doesn't make it any less true.
Her "AGENDA" was to write a story to entertain people. The book has many morals and values in it--that was her agenda!
JKR is a Christian. "I believe in God, not magic", she said. She knows her work is fiction!
And I got news for you buddy, chances are your kids will find out about gay people LONG before they turn 14. Hell, they might even be gay! You never know.

My point is, gay people exist. Big deal. Straight people exist. Musical people exist. Athletic people exist. We live in a world of different types of people. Are you going to wait until your kids are 11 to explain to them that bigoted people exist? I should hope not. They need to know right away what you are.

And it's NOT a sin against God to be gay! GOD LOVES EVERYBODY. I repeat--EVERYBODY. The bible was written by HUMANS who didnt' believe in homosexuality--God did NOT write the bible!

Yes, 'dear'. J.K Rowling indeed said that Dumbledore is gay. And it's a pity that you have kids 'cause the people responsible for the increase in hate crimes, are mostly the 'wonderful' parents of your kind. So keep innoculating your children's soul with poison until they make you proud someday... lmao and you're a horrible a r se... get knotted.
