Speaking of that, does anyone know where I can read about the original intent of baseball? In other words, I heard that the homerun in baseball wasnt the original intent. It was more of a base to base scoring type of game. Thanks for any help!

It was difficult to hit many homers in early baseball because the parks were often large, the balls were often soft from being used over and over, and a ball that bounced once before being caught was still considered an out. It was really only about 1920 when the home run became the weapon of choice for many.

I'm not sure that it has a name, but the cricket equivalent of a home run would probably be a ball hit over the boundary, which counts for six runs.

I am an Indian (East Indian, not a Native American, or an Indians fan) who is a fan of both baseball and cricket. Both games must have originated form the same game called stoolball. There is no direct equivalent of a home run in cricket. If you hit the ball out of the field inthe air you are awarded 6 runs and it is called a "Sixer". If the ball goes past the field after bouncing in the outfield the batsman (not batter) is awrded four runs - this is called a "four" or simply a boundary.

Criket is no longer the 5 day game. Shorter versions of the game are becoming very popular. Specially the 20 over version which pretty much lasts a long as a baseball game.

There are no home runs in cricket. However, if the batsman hits the ball in the air over the boundary line in the playing ground, it is called as a "SIX". Its six runs awarded to the batsman. And, yes, it more or less looks like a home run where the batsman hits the ball miles into the air and in to the crowd!
