If you are only working as needed then it's nice to let them know that you will not be available in two weeks. The more notice that you give to any employer, the better the reference will be.

It is always best to put in the notice, but first, check with company policies. Some companies won't let you work out your notice, so be prepared for that.

By putting in and working out your two weeks notice, you are enabling yourself to come back if circumstances should ever note it.
