A star cluster is generally a group of stars that were formed at about the same time from the same material; A galaxy is a collection of stars, regardless of their time of formation or relationship to each other.

- Star clusters are much smaller than galaxies.
- Star clusters might contain 100s, 1000s, or even 10,000s of stars, but a galaxy contains billions.
- Star clusters contain stars and star-forming materials only.

A star cluster (either open of globular) is a much smaller-scale structure than a galaxy. Star clusters are gravitationally bound, but they are found within the larger-scale structure of galaxies.

size is the main difference, but I'd think that a cluster can become a galaxy given enough mass.

also, i believe (most?) galaxies have been found to have a black-hole in the middle of them, whereas clusters do not.

isn't this what wikipedia's for?

starcluster is a handful (on the order of dozens) of stars which are relatively close together. a galaxy is in the range of hundreds of thousands of stars which are all in a large formation with eachother around some central point.

a galaxy may contain many many star clusters.

hope this helps :)
