First of all to those stating the army gets paid well, try it. Work 24/7/365 and see what your hourly rate is. The people that say this have no clue as to what the service is. Possibly if you are a Cpt or above then yes, most are not. Have your wife speak to the chaplain he will be in the best position to guide and help as he will have some rank, compassion, and knowledge of where to look. Need to get rid of one of the cars, that will get rid of a payment, and lower the insurance. Wife can also check with social services for a daycare for the young one in order to even work part time, or make a deal with others in your situation, if they get the schedules right they can babysit for each other. Good luck, and as a former vet I thank you for your service, Hope it works out. GOD bless all of you
By the way every dime I earned in the military was not only taxed by the Fed, but by the state, and local entity. Always thought it was kind of funny that I was in some way paying my own wages.

I'm no math whiz but by my reckonin', you're in debt and it's growing every month in the amount of seven hundred and twenty five dollars. That's without paying any taxes. I suggest wish sandwiches unless you have another full time job. There is no good reason on god's green earth that a willing adult should be forced to work for wages that will barely support the basics of life in 2008. We say we're this great country yet half the people support the class system that has developed over our history and think nothing of one man making a hundred and fifty million a year while another who works every day at a menial job can barely exist and things are only getting worse with all the outsourcing corporate America has come to love. Welcome to the invisible class, the millions of Americans who make too much for any kind of help, yet not enough to ever really have a piece of the American dream.

you might check out Dave Ramsey's site. http://www.daveramsey.com/
You are being negligent, because you have been spending irresponsibly.
Get rid of the cars. I know you need transportation, but you need to get out from the notes, and pay cash for an older car that you dont have to make payments on.
Why are you paying rent and not in military housing?
Your wife should work nights somewhere so you can watch the kids. She could work late nights at law firms doing data entry, or at fedex or ups.

I believe another user already called you a Forrest Gump so I'll refrain. You sir, are negligent in spending, and in your spelling. The Army pays you BAH, FSA, food allowance, clothing allowance, special duty pays, PX, no fed tax if you are deployed, etc., etc., etc. Army take care of their own. Most of what I mentioned isn't even taxed!
You sir need to speak with your superior officer, and obtain the benefits manual. You are supposed to get a reduced auto insurance, higher interest savings/checking accounts. You can invoke lower interest rates on bills. Army get subsidized day care!
And by the way to the user who argued that Army does not get paid well because of the hourly breakdown, your statements are reckless. By your formula, doctors, lawyers, accountants, and most professionals do not get paid well. These people work 80-100 hour weeks to make their money. You neglected to mention any non-taxable benefits. BAH in most states ranges from 800-1000. Since asker has dependent he gets an additional 250. I also said Non-taxable standard pay IF DEPLOYED. Most military are completely ignorant of the benefits they can reap and should learn to read what they're given like their drill sergeants taught them in boot. One can save thousands in interest alone on their mortgage by utilizing the amazing and ASSUMABLE VA/FHA loans. GI Bill, GI Bill for your dependents, pension plan, $400k life insurance, Tri-Care excellently subsidized medical/dental/vision, free travel (but low rent flight), discounts, auto incentives, student loan deferment and admin forbearance options with lower interest, signing bonuses, hazard pay if deployed, low interest business loans, get out of most speeding tickets ID card, independent surveyed 40% average savings at the PX supermarket.....

I know (1st hand) that our soldiers & military don't make enough money. .
Please also try to call your electric company, they should have some contacts, phone numbers or program info to give you to help with your electric bill.
Also go Get food stamps from your state or city office. I'm sure You probably will qualify.
Good luck.
(p.s. People. . .on some posts, even if you do have a family. . ..you have to be a certain rank in order to get post housing. . .it may not be an automatic thing)

Stop living beyond your means. Sell the cars and buy cheaper ones. Doesn't the army pay you BAH to live off post? Don't they pay you BAQ as well? The military pays you extra money when you have a family, you are just bad with money. Move on post, it's FREE.
The person above me is a moron. The military is paid well and has EXCELLENT benefits. He apparently never had the guts to serve or he would know that.
I know "1st hand."

If you have a low income, your wife can get subsidized child care. Call Social Services.
It is a crime that the military is paid so poorly. Vote Dem and make some needed changes.
