Call your local police department's non-emergency number and ask them if they offer such a service. I've read a couple of different articles about halloween candy tampering being just an urban legend and I have never known anyone to have been victim to such a thing. I advise taking your daughter to houses that you know and then when she gets home, go through her candy under a bright light - better to see broken wrappers. If you're so worried - "trade" her candy in for some that you bought from the store.

Yes, I'm not sure what the police will do and they probably have more important things to deal with on Halloween night.
Hospitals used to xray candy years ago. I doubt they still do, but you can always check.
I think using common sense is the main thing - don't let your kids trick or treat in a neighborhood you aren't familiar with. Never take candy that isn't wrapped. As sad as it is, while homemade stuff might be nice, it's not just unsafe because you don't know what's in it - but also you don't know how it's been prepared, like how clean that kitchen is, etc.

I never heard that you could go somewhere to have the candy checked. But, my husband is SUPER over protective so he always tells the kids that he has to go through the candy before they eat it. Normally, they get enough to fill up a medium to large size bag. He will take all the candy they have collected, and replace it with candy we bought at the store. They have caught on yet to his swapping techinque, I wonder if they ever will? I guess, candy is candy so even if they did find out I hope it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

I don't know that the police are going to do anything different than millions of parents have been doing for decades:
pour the candy on the table and shift through it. Throw away anything with open/compromised wrappers.

It is no urban myth! I know for a fact someone in our neighborhood has tempered with candy. We had several apples with sewing needles in them before. Now we stay away from any fruits and homemade pastries and cookies. If it looks like it is in question, throw it out....PS I spent all night driving around looking for the house with the apples. If I found it you would remember the story on the news- I would have beat the crap out of someone!

Tampering with Halloween candy is an urban myth. If you're still worried about it feel free to check it yourself, it is fairly easy to tell if something has been partially opened or tampered with.

go through the bag and look to see if any of the wrappers looked tampered with. That's all a cop is going to do anyway.
Refuse homebaked stuff though.

Its usually hard to tamper with candy bars, but don't accept anything that is not packaged.
