Hi Congratulations on your pregnancy! And congratulations on wanting to do the best thing for babe. There is a website called www.helppregnantsmokersquit.org that I hope is helpful.
I would think tapering off would be your best bet. Cold turkey would be very hard and probably not very successful.
Wishing you all the best!

Ok, smoking is not good for the baby, and neither is stress. Some non smokers dont understand how addictive nicotene is sometimes.
I think what you should do right now, is start weening yourself. Make a goal, for a week or two from now. Start cutting back every single day. Half a pack, 9, 8, 7, etc. Then quit totally. I quit cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant, but I understand that this is not possible for some women. And it doesnt make you a bad person, so dont let anyone make you feel that way. If you can quit immediatly, then thats what you should do. But only YOU know if you can handle that. Otherwise, like I said, take it slow. Remember even if you dont quit today, every step you take will get you closer to that goal.
I also suggest talking to a doctor! They might have some other advice to help you! Good luck!

Quit now!. Quitting cold turkey from smoking will not hurt your baby. It hurts the baby more to keep smoking.
The best way to have a healthy baby, is to:
get a doctor, have regular pre-natal check-ups, do not smoke or drink alcohol, take pre-natal vitamins, have all the tests performed that your doctor advises. Exercise - ask your doctor for assistance on what you can and can' do, walk everyday, keep your feel up as preganancy progresses, eat healthy and proper amounts - don't just eat, eat , eat becuase you are pregnant, don't do illegal drugs, drinks lots of water, get your proper rest. Good luck.

I quit cold turkey when I was about two weeks pregnant. I am so glad I made that change. I have a beautiful healthy baby.
I smoked approximately 5-8 cigarettes in one day.

I think you're in kind of a lose-lose situation here. The baby will go through the same things you do. It's really up to you what to do but smoking is bad and putting it through withdrawal is bad. I think the best way to have the healthy baby is to stop smoking and get pregnant after you're done with that.
I understand that it's probably a little late for that, but it's still your choice whether or not to go through with having this baby.

I'm not a doctor, but I have many smoker friends who have quit once finding out they are pregnant. The doctor never said anything about losing the baby, just told them to quit. They all quit cold turkey and have beautiful healthy children.

First of all....Congrats.
Next...just stop. I have 2 kids and I was able to cold turkey stop with both of them, They are healthy. What I did to help with my jitters, do some thing that makes you focus on the baby, just for 1 min. That's about the time you would spend smoking. Weather it be looking in the mirror at your growing belly, or standing in the nursery imagining your blessed days to come. Good Luck! Be Blessed!

Quit. Nicotine is a powerful stimulant. The withdrawals might do a *little* damage, the early you stop the less the damage. But smoking throughout - even cutting back - WILL cause low birthweight, damaged liver and kidneys, delayed CNS (brain) development.
Stop. Right now. I mean, take the cigarettes you have in the house and throw them in the garbage disposal. Then eat. You're going to gain weight ANYWAY. And you'll loose it when you nurse.

i quit both times cold turkey with both pregnancies, no issues with loosing a baby so dont worry about that. Talk to your doctor about anything you may be able to take to help you quit smoking, there are so many things out there to help with the cravings. Its not easy to quit - so ask for help. Most people are not strong enough to quit for their own heath but many woman can do it for the health of their babies. We are amazing creatures and are very strong when it comes to our children. Good luck to you, its rough but worth it in the end.
BTW, i am not smoke free of 2 + years :)

I never heard of quitting cold turkey will harm the baby. If you are scared of that then take it gradual, but smoking in itself is not healthy. Drink a lot of water!!!!
