The erosion of our civil rights, wire tapping, voter fraud, military industrial theocracy, additional powers given to the executive branch ... regardless of how you feel about these issues, as we push democracy in different countries around the world (Russia, Afghanistan, Iraq etc.) have we become a bad example of how a democracy is suppose to work?

and, if so

How badly have we damaged our reputation as 'a beacon of hope' to oppressed nations?

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that so many are apathetic and oblivious to whats happening, but I am saddened at peoples lack of education and involvement ... I'm not a conspiracy theorist, just a realist

Wow. Two "you're stupid"s and two "we're still better than Mexico, so we're alright"s. IMHO the answer to your question is yes. In addition to the issues you raised, I would add the improbability of the U.S. overseeing or inspiring honest, fair national elections anywhere else in the world when the last two U.S. Presidential elections were fixed.

#1. Name a civil right that has been "Eroded".

#2 Wire tapping is a misused term. Our government is authorized to listen in on suspected calls originating form outside the US. Every Administration since Kennedy has done the same thing.

#3 Voter fraud is nothing new and certainly has nothing to do with Democracy or any other form of governing.

#4 Ah, the old military complex. Nice stretch.

#5 additional powers Again, every president has had at his discretion, the ability to change certain things by executive order. Nothing new here either.

I don't feel that our reputation has been damaged. If that were the case, why do millions still try to get here and others around the world constantly ask for our help?

The best guide for that would be imigration. When it slows you will know that people no longer want in. Because they only want in if its better than where they are. Last I saw imigration rates werwe rising. So I guess we are still a better place than most...
