It depends on your circumstances. If you would be on the receiving end of all the government's handouts, you would be the slavemaster rather than the enslaved under Socialism, so any Democrat would do just fine.
If you go so far as to feel the shackle of iron around your leg when you see the FICA amount on your paycheck, the Republicans are all pretty much one like another. Republicans are a better slavemaster only because they won't work you completely to death, but other than Ron Paul, they are enamored of the big intrusive government idea, too.
I'd say that for someone that really wants to be free, the order of preference goes pretty much like this:
Libertarian Party Candidate (To be determined)
Ron Paul
Mike Huckabee
The Other Republicans
Democrats
Sharia Law.
I give the Democrats credit for being better than something.
