I currently have 80gb hd on my Dell Dual core Desktop. I plan to buy a 500gb hd and replace the 80gb hd.

Is there a way to mirror all the contents of my 80gb HD on to my new 500gb HD and then merely remove the 80gb and make the 500gb my primary HD on my desktop ?

I am trying to avoid starting from scratch on the new 500gb HD.

Install the new HD, then copy the entire contents from the 80 to the 500. Then, make the 500 the primary.

It is not possible to "copy" all of the data from one hard drive to another via Windows. You will need to use an imaging program. Norton Ghost works very well and there are others. Do a Google search.

Also, if you are running Win XP be sure that you have SP2 installed or your system may not detect a drive that is larger then 137 gigs.
