Serious question:if ,as the Libs and dems say,the vast majority of Americans are opposed to the war, where are the marches etc such as those we had in the 60's?
Are they basing thier actions and political stance on skewed polls?

truth seeker,
and if we suffer another major attack, you'll see an escalation to the war, what's your point?
A "few" marches hardly support the claim of Americans demanding an immediate pull-out.

Folks, your arguments don't hold water,I grew up in the 60's and remember it very well;the current mood of the country in NO way resembles the mood back then.

vegan,
let me get this right:you're trying to tell me that the media we have today is supressing the coverage? You actually beleive that the media of the 60's was more liberal than today?!

gabykawa,
right, and the police dogs, night sticks, tear gas, fire hoses, and rifle fire of the 60's was just a gentle reminder to dispurse?
There are no "genuine" protests today because the war is perceived by most to be justified. They may rant and rave against it but when it comes down to possibly getting hurt to stand against it they seem to lose their motivation.

gabykawa,
your answer illistates exactly what is wrong with the current generation(whatever you call yourselves)You will cry rightous indignation at a perceived slight, but when it comes to getting into the trenches and fighting for what you think is right, the excuses start flowing.Whether I agreed with the activists of my era or not,I respected them for taking a stance and taking the pain that went with it.That generation could make things change because they would put their lives on the line to convince the American public that change was needed.Current generation:don't tase me bro,or I'll sue.
You got no heart.

Yeah, keep on believing in those "skewed polls" all the way to the '08 elections...

There are plenty of peace marches btw. Try one - it might open your eyes to see, for instance, the veterans against the war speak...

there have been literally thousands of anti-war marches, protests, candle light vigils, and yes even sit ins since before the war even started, the numbers boasted at the big ones far outnumber those in the 60s and 70s, The media just is not covering them they way they where back then and this war has not been going on as long as Vietnam was when protest culture really heated up back then.

there have been several peace marches.

start up a "draft" and you will see several more.

**the major difference between now and the 60's is that there was a draft in the 60's and virtually everyone (without connections) was affected by it. With a volunteer army, not everyone is affected. I do believe that you would see many more protests if there was a draft. It is not as political as you might want to make it.

there was one like a week ago . 100000 people showed in DC according to indy news - dont ask me why nobody else reported it-actually it was on 9-22 -07 led by iraq war vets

normally I wont put a link like this up because it will get shot down - but if you search local DC news sources you will find the same story

also on a personal note I think most people will just try to vote it away in the presidential election coming up

There is no draft, and therefore an individual doesn't feel compelled to fight. Also, there have been many marches that weren't covered on TV except for c-span.

There have been several protests. I have been involved in a couple of them. This isn't the 60s. There are also other forms of protest.

Yes the media is not reporting the protesting that is occuring.

It's hard to join a demonstration when you know in advance that you're going to be tasered, pepper sprayed, beaten up and arrested.

Well, scientific polls taken demonstrate that the majority of Americans now see the invasion of Iraq as a foreign policy mistake.
