They go to heaven.

They should do something they enjoy.
If it continues after a week or two then I'd get counselling.

I sometimes feel down and stuff which can feel VERY bad. I never label it depressed or anything though because it's like you're saying you need to be fixed by someone else.

Thoughts influence emotion.. Change your thoughts.

It may not be that simple. A person who suffering from depression will probably want to say that it's not that simple because they're stuck to their story which benefits them in some way unconsciously.

As strange as it might sound, I think getting someone else to pull you out of that depression is part of the problem. People can help but you're ultimately the one who is responsible.

Some depressed people take a walk to the lake and fill their pockets with heavy stones.

If you're depressed, call a friend. Ask if they want to hang out. Find something creative to do together. The mood will pass. If there are no friends to call, play a game online against other people and abuse them without mercy.

My first reflex answer was 'into the pit'.

I recommend going to a psychiatrist. They are trained in both psychology and medicine. If you need a medication, they can prescribe one. If you need 'talk' advice, they are qualified in this area too.

A psychiatrist is the best first choice. I always advise this. In fact, I feel it is a waste of time seeing any other professional before a psychiatrist.
