They have to. He most likely won't want to stick around for a rebuilding team with a bleak future. Atlanta's best bet will be to follow a Flyers rebuilding plan, but that also requires farm team depth. Either way, Hossa's gonna bolt.
As for when to trade, pull the trigger whenever the best deal comes along. Most likely, that will come around trade deadline when teams offers are pushing each other. Plus, the team receiving Hossa will have to pay less for him, since he'll be playing a fraction of a season with them.

It is not necessarily true that a team would give up more for Hossa now, especially when you factor the salary cap into the equation. If it were true, more teams would trade early. The fact is that when some other team is on the verge of making the playoffs in March and Hossa's salary is mostly eaten up, THEY will be the desperate team, and that is when Atlanta will get the most leverage. The Thrashers would be wise to hang onto Hossa until then. Besides, if they get rid of him now, they'll lose a lot of ticket revenue when people see they already threw in the towel and refuse to go to the games.

under general circumstances, it might've been a terrible commerce. besides the incontrovertible fact that, for the reason that Hossa expressed activity to find out the loose agent industry, Atlanta maximum in all risk would have lost him for not something. Hossa, a maximum excellent sniper, isn't one in all those guy you want to lose with no need something in return. Pens followers look to love Armstrong, and do not forget approximately that Angelo Esposito not too some time past become seen a blue chip prospect (that would have replaced, yet he does have potential). inspite of the league understanding Atlanta had to commerce him, i think of they have been given a stable return pondering the circumstances. They have been given distinctive youngsters (probable will help fill up a number of what they lost interior the tkachuk commerce final 12 months). and that they picked up a well-known around %. this 12 months (that's meant to be between the internal maximum in a protracted time). So like I suggested, usually it might've been a terrible commerce, yet pondering the circumstances, i think of Don Waddell did rather plenty.

Maybe to trade Hossa to a cup contender, like say, Detroit, but to just trade him cuz of this or that, no, he still offers a team some excitement, and Atlanta is missing that.

Perhaps but really who wants him. He has an attitude problem and plays only when he feels like it. The guy has talent but he plays dirty (he's a notorious kicker) and there are nights when the going is rough when he mails it in. Why do you think Ottawa dumped him in the first place? They have been laughing ever since. Not hard to tell that Heatley was the better player and the Sens got way better after that trade.

Probably and they probably will. I have been hearing Toronto mentioned and I could see Montreal in the equaion as well. Montreal could include Halak as part of the package.

I think they should keep him at least until 08/09. Then, as rumours have it...he'll head to the northwest division.

I would say yes, only because he's all that team has that's worth trading. kovulchuk is so one-dimensional that most smart teams wouldn't want him.
