Yahoo! Answers! is a bit different. The people that come here (and this is my opinion) love to know that others have had the same problem. We also like the different answers, some funny, some very detailed and informative. It gives you a sense of interaction.
Yeah we can do a google search, but come on, this is way more fun!

I know! It's crazy how some questions would be so much simpler if the asker just googled the topic or something.
But humans like to interact with other humans, not machines who they can't actually relate to. They feel that information will be more specific and thorough if, instead of running their request through a search engine, they ask real people with real life experience.
Ah, the beauty of Yahoo! Answers : )

I feel the same way. There are a lot of people on here that just refuse to simply look things up on Google (like song lyrics or common knowlege). I think it is becuase they want attention.

To me it makes sense for people to ask on "Yahoo Answers" with questions that relate to "what would you do?" kinda questions. It is alot more personal to ask on YAHOO ANSWERS then on Google.
Maybe some people feel more comfortable to hear from people that actually want to help them, then an impersonal search result.
Especially for questions that pertain to relationships, family issues, etc.
There are people who sometimes don't have someone to talk to since it involves the person.

Probably because most people don't understand how to "Google" effectively.
A better question is:
Why don't people use the Discover Tab first? Most posted questions have been ASKED & ANSWERED thousands of times. Their even displayed as you type in your question. Hmmm...

Lazy or inexperienced. You'll actually be surprised how many things ppl don't know about, like the other day somebody asked me about a letter she got from Yahoo saying her account was going to be deleted, blah blah ... and I had to explain to her that people are trying to scam her.

It would be faster, but most people dont even bother to think about using a search engine.
At least it gives people like me something to do.

* Some people definitely have genuine questions (in that case asking questions helps)
* Also saves effort; sometimes we get broader perspective of things, allows interacting with other people.
* Others wants to increase their points in Y! answers to move to higher levels.
* Its fun to do so.

sometimes a search engine can interperet the context of your question while someone on here can. not only that, there isn't as many biast answers and the responder can be referenced for further advise. think of it as advise, not info.
