Hi,
Not good! It can sometimes be confusing enough to cope with memories of our current life let alone dealing with what's happenned lifetime after lifetime before. Think of all the flashbacks. The bad times and the good.
Think of the resentment if this life isn't half as exciting or good as a past one. The 'what have I done to deserve this life' syndrome. Best I think that we've only the challenge of getting through this one the best as we can with just a hint sometimes of vague possible memories (in dreams or feelings) of what has gone before.

I don't whether or not it would make us better people. There are some societies where, although people may not remember all their individual past lives, past lives are accepted as a norm/given. Yet this does not necessarily mean people within these societies act better for it.
I think this a highly individual thing. Knowing about one's past life may really help some people. It may make them want to be a better person and perhaps come to terms with certain things in their life. On the other hand, some people may just feel like why bother/worry about what I do in this if I'll just have another life anyway.
Ian Stevenson did a lot of interesting work on reincarnation. His research was from a scientific standpoint yet open to the idea of reincarnation, which is not typical of mainstream science.

The theory of janmandara do not say that one can 'remember' his past life. This is because, what you are now, is only what you made out yuorself to be after you are born, and in this world; and you do not have any knowledge of what you were before your birth. Logic shall tell us, that after death, one goes back to the status whic was before birth. so, memories, that began here, shall necessarily end here, ther is no carrieng over.
But, if one can remember the past life, then one shall be much more careful in this life, and shall indeed be a better person.

I'm not too sure about the barking mad bit. We'd have evolved into it, and it might just seem perfectly normal.

I think we may have been better off not knowing what we know now. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.
