Everyone knows that chickens lay eggs which hatch and become chickens but I have never heard of how a rooster is created. Does anyone know? Is it cross-breeding like a mule (horse and donkey) or do some of the chicken eggs contain roosters instead of chickens?

Thank you. I think most people not on farms believe that chickens and hens are the same things. And by the way I do read ALOT - its just that there really isnt any point in spending hours looking for one fact when I could ask it on here and have it in a few seconds.

Chick is not a sexual description for a chicken. Logically you would assume that. Chick is a baby chicken, which can be either male or female. So roosters come from the same place hens do, fertilized chicken eggs.

By the way, using the word chick to described a young human woman or used to get a females attention is consider vulgar. It is a derogatory term.

Just as chickens have chicks, roosters are roosted (like all chicks). Not by roosters, oddly enough, as far as I'm aware, and I'm not sure whether they would want to, given the chance.
A rooster is simply a male adult chicken. It may seem like a different species because, altho domesticated, it is generally allowed to rule a roost. This may not seem very Christian, being the chicken equivalent of a harem, but it is done for reasons of presumed material gain. Others might argue that Christian eggs taste better, in fact.

a rooster is a male chicken.
a female is a "hen".

for whatever reason most people not involved in farming or animals call hens "chickens"

most animals have female forms but get called by their species name.
a female dog is a *****, a female horse is a mare, etc etc....
