This auction is for an Old Japanese Sword BUKE-ZUKURI KOSHIRAE Kinko (Alloy) Tusba of KIKUGATA Style with remarkable craftsmanship. This is a high degree of art form and no longer consider a part of a weapon. It is signed by the Tsuba artist "TAISHIMEI CHIYAUAKU". Both front and back are different scenes, the front depicted five mystic fierce lions with the gold foiled lion heads and symbolically with Mystic power. The back side depicted chrysanthemum flowers and leaves, symbolize the eternal peace after death. It is very old, and the style makes it estimated to be in the early EDO of even MOMOYAMA period. It measures 3x3 inches and weights 4.1oz. In according to the 1980 Sotheby Parke Bernet Auction sale on "Japanese Works of Art", this specific type of Tsuba sold for $400.00-$600.00. I bought dozens of these antique Tsubas in Kyoto in 1966 initially for its beauty and remarkable craftsmanship, and am gradually selling my collection along with Japanese swords. (Please refer to the expert reference book "Nihon To Koza Vol I-VI, Kodogu".)
