Could smoking while pregnant be classed as a form of child abuse? It annoys me when I see pregnant women smoking and I think it is very selfish.

I totally agree. I have worked in a hospital nursery. Babies of smoking mothers are much more fussy due to coming down off nicotene, that the other babies. Also, they tend to have lower birth weights.

If abortion is legal, I don't see how smoking while pregnant could be considered child abuse. My mom smoked while she was pregnant with me and I am healthy & have always been healthy. My wife also smoked early in her pregnancy with our son (she smoked before she knew she was pregnant and for the short time it took to ween herself) and he is a healthy 13 month old and was born weighing 9 lbs. 7 oz. I understand people's concern, but I don't know of any examples to the contrary that would make me think of it as "abuse". By no means does it mean a person doesn't care for their child. I happen to believe that a lot of the cited health issues that smoking is alleged to cause is mostly hype. There are many people that are chain smokers who live well into their 90's and 100's, and most live as long as their non-smoking counterparts.

I can't stand that..It BUGS the HECK outta me.UGHHHH!!!..Sorry! Especially when they're holding the kid while smoking, out for a walk pushing a stroller, riding in the car together, or even in the same room! That is just some form of 'self abuse a child should not have to be exposed to or endure! If I were a smoker and pregnant, that would be the one thing to get me to quit, and that would be the health and safe birth of my beautiful unborn child!

it relatively is taken into consideration one of those discipline. i do no longer likely think of it relatively is abuse. regardless of the undeniable fact that once you do it, do no longer do it to a baby no youthful than 6, and don't overuse stress. the baby will many times learn how to do despite they're advised just to evade this, yet some mom and dad take it way too a ways, and at that factor it relatively is abuse. it is not baby abuse yet can easily be grew to become into baby abuse while a parent purely blows over the line with it. accepted stress to purely approximately 2 or 3 spanks is effectual and not abuse yet once you're slamming on the baby for form of three minutes it relatively is abuse...

i guess you could call it "fetal abuse" but then the women who smoke while pregnat are ignorant people, and they do not know what harm theyre doing to their unborn child. fetuses of smoking mothers are usually born early and low in their weight,as they get older theyre prone to pulmonary problems..so to answer your question yes smoking while pregnant is a form of abuse.

I think its disgusting and really crappy to submit your unborn child to such a unhealthy lifestyle before there even born so that there "mother'' can get there fix and its extremely selfish, but unfortunately its not against the law nor considered child abuse.

I think it should be considered child abuse. I hate it when I see that as well. I mean don't they care enough about their unborn child not to do that. I have seen women who smoked that quit during pregnancy so I don't see why others can't as well.

It should be. It's not good to smoke while pregnant because the child could have brain damage, low birth weight, ect.

Personally I think it is.

And I also think those women should be ashamed of themselves.
Would they blow cigarette smoke into a new born baby's face? Because that's pretty much what they're doing if they smoke while pregnant.

Personally and morally, I think it is but legally, it is not. Children already born barely have rights and, as sad as it is, the unborn child is even less of a priority in our society.
