I have a pile of pans and baking dishes that went unwashed for long enough that the vegetable oil/grease/etc. on them has oxidized into a sticky mess that doesn't respond to hot water and detergent. When I try to rub it off, it's like trying to rub off glue. Does anyone know how to get this stuff off? (Never mind why the pans and dishes went unwashed!)

I use Greased Lightning. You can buy it at Dollar General. Also buy some green scrubby pads.
Just spray it on and scrub with the pad. rinse well. Another thing to try is a dishwasher.

I've run into something like that.

First, put water and a dab of dish detergent in the pan and bring it to a boil, then let it cool.. Once it's cool enough, scrub out what's loosened. Then use baking soda and a scrubbing pad to get the rest. It will take a lot of elbow grease, but it does work.

Even better - Soak in Hot water with baking soda for 1 day - LOTS of baking soda, if you still have issues, go for the big boy - Vinegar and water, but - you may have yucky vinegar taste in your pan for a bit.
If all else fails, scouring powder, comet - bonami, urgh!

Try using Oven Cleaner...let it set for a while...then wash it.
