No, they are not self-aware. The millions or billions of responses we can program into their memory, will only reflect our own thought processes. To me, thinking involves self-awareness....something that may be achieved in the future, but with current technology can't be 'programmed' into a computer.

They think in the sense of putting 2 and 2 together, but very fast and in many complex ways (actually, they do nothing but put 0 and 1 together). It's all logic and processing. But computers cannot think they think. They exist in only 4 dimensions of space and time, unlike us humans that have another element that can transecnd 4 dimensions and reflect, or be philosophical.

Computers seem to "think" because they are able to process the data that we enter but they are only capable of doing those processes because of the programs installed.

i recommend you read or find Searle's Chinese Room argument.

No. Computers can only do what they are programmed to do. If they could "think" they would not need a programmer.

No, they can't. They merely process. Thinking requires a feedback loop and recursive circuitry for self-analysis.

No, they are set to carry out programs. They can't manipulate or adapt to their surroundings.
