Last Friday at a talk presented at Carnegie Hall in New York City, author J.K. Rowling announced that her character, Dumbledore, was 'gay' and had a love affair with wizard Gellert Grindelwald. How freaky is that?

If one of my family members or relatives was a homsexual, I would immediately take them to a psychiatrist to be cured like all those other ex-homosexuals who have been cured.

Like I have said when I answered these kind of questions before, I think it was TOTALLY inappropriate for her to bring that out. The story is over, Voldemort is dead, so why bring something like that up? I am VERY upset with her right now, because I think it takes away from the story. Because now people are going to analyze everything he does and for no reason because his sexual orientation has nothing to do with the story!!! However, I am going to continue to watch the movie and reading the books. I am going to read them like she never said anything about it. But if I see ANYTHING in the movies that suggests he is gay, I won't be watching anymore

Wow... Tolerance and understanding run rampant on Yahoo Answers.
How does this possibly make a difference. How?
Since she finished the series, Rowling has been giving us bits of additional information about the lives of the characters (such as the careers of the surviving students). This is just another example of that.
Frankly, if this one glimpse of Dumbledore's character, in the light of everything else we have learned of him is going to turn you off these stories permanently, then, in my opinion, you have completely missed the point of these books. What possible difference does Dumbledore's sexuality make? Do we ever see him trying to turn another teacher or student gay? In fact, do we ever see him in any form of a relationship? Or, do we see a man who made a bit of a mistake in his youth (see HP 7), give up all personal ambition and devote himself completely to the education of young people, so that just maybe, he can try to keep the mistakes he made from happening again.
Rowling is not trying to promote a lifestyle, she is just trying to give us a deeper look into his character.

I could give a flying fart in space if he is gay. I love Dumbledore. I cried like a baby when he died. I don't see why the sexual preference of anyone ( real or fictional) should affect you liking them. It shows you are a small minded, bigoted homophobe. It has always been my belief that people who are the most outraged and outspoken against homosexuals have latent same sex feeling which they feel guilty and ashamed about. The quote " Methinks the lady doth protest too much" comes to mind ( hope I didn't mess up the quote!)

i don't care that dumbledore is gay. i still LOVE all the HP books. my only question is what was J.K. Rowling's point in bringing up this bit of information at this point when she's finished the series??? I thought she wanted to stay out of the news. What gives...

okay, first, you can't cure homosexuality. second, i hate the harry potter movies, i think they totally portray the books wrong and they are inaccurate. the first two were good, the third was good, the fourth was not that good, and the fifth was bad. so i won't watch them anyway, but not at all for that reason.

It's small minded people like you that make me worry for what the world will be like for my children in the future. I think that there should be more children's literature available with all kinds of lifestyles and sexual orientation in them. These days there is hardly a "normal" family left, we have evolved into a different society, where 2 men or 2 women are raising children into adulthood. These children, I feel, are very lucky in that they have life experiences you or I will never have.Yet people like you and your ilk make this world a less nice place....get a grip, grow up and cop the hell on. Your intolerance and ignorance makes me want to throw up.

I do NOT have a problem with gay people. She is obviously thinking she is not getting the media attention she wants anymore, so she has to announce something "shocking" to get back in the news. We usually have the "token gay guy" in tv shows, now we must put them in every book? If your comment is true, how lame of her to stoop to that 'must have' stereotype. It's just as stupid as when Mattel announced that Barbie and Ken were getting a divorce.

I didn't watch them before.
Nothing will change for me now. I am glad they have a gay character though, just to further piss off the people who think Harry Potter is evil.
