John F. Kennedy was sworn in as the 35th President at noon on January 20, 1961. In his inaugural address he spoke of the need for all Americans to be active citizens, famously saying, "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." He also asked the nations of the world to join together to fight what he called the "common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease, and war itself." In closing, he expanded on his desire for greater internationalism: "Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you.

America's last great president was George Washington , he is the single most important person in American history, and one of the most important persons who ever lived. Washington was the central figure in both the American Revolution and the Constitutional Convention (without Washington's support, the Convention never would have succeeded), but today we honor President Washington for his brilliant and indispensable leadership during the crucial early years of the American Republic.

Washington understood that, as the nation's first president (the only president to be elected by the unanimous vote of the Electoral College), he had been entrusted to set the course for the future growth and success of the infant nation. During his eight years in office, Washington deftly steered clear of the many dangers then threatening the country.

Teddy Roosevelt. He was a hunter, yet an environmentalist, he was for immigration, but expected the immigrants to become Americans, speak English, wave only the American flag, and support American ideals. Walk softly, but carry a big stick. He was the man.

Jimmy Carter. He left office pretty much the same humble man that he entered the office as. This is quite extraordinary, the norm seems to be that the power trip of being "the leader of the free world" twists and corrupts the spirit. Maybe it's true that all the others were already corrupt and as president that corruption was allowed to flourish.

I vote for Harry Truman. WHY? Harry had a sign on his desk that read, "The Buck Stops Here." Harry always spoke his mind and was very politically incorrect. He called a spade a spade. He also didn't hesitate to bomb Japan with atomic bombs to stop WWII. We could use another Harry Truman today.
