why bother to ask if you are not going to choose a best answer, i can see the occasional question being left for a vote,
also 9 times out of 10 the first question gets voted best anyway, even if it is not the best answer. people just choose the first one

Couldn't agree more...why bother having everyone answer your question if you don't plan to award points. The only time I could see leaving it is if none of the answers are satisfactory.

I'm not sure of the stats, but I bet that at least 50% of the time, the first answer gets the most votes, even if it's a stupid answer.

I try to always pick a best answer for my questions, and it is not always the first. I think some people just want an answer and don't bother with picking a best of the bunch. Personally, I kind of enjoy it, because sometimes it is the funny one that best fits, sometimes the serious one and sometimes none.

I've noticed that too. People also don't want the best answer but only want someone to agree with them.

EDIT: Maybe they don't realize that if they do give a best answer they get three of the five points back that it cost for asking a question in the first place. Personally, I could care less about points so I can say what I want to say.

Probably because sports news changes every couple of minutes, so they forget about the question they asked. It ends up being old news. I'm not condoning the lack of choosing a best answer--it gets on my nerves too. But, I think because of how often sports information changes, they forget they even asked the question (not that yahoo doensn't remind you). Btw, I'm going to come back and check this question to make sure you choose a best answer. :)

Best Answer? For the points, right? Ruins your Best Answer percentage answering questions like that, huh? Do you get anything for your points? Can you cash them in for a yo-yo or plastic insect like at Chucky Cheese? Or are they just meaningless statistics that appear to inflate your own ego. You're somebody in Yahoo! answers. What an interesting life you must lead.

I've been wondering that too.
Just like why do people ask a question that has been posted tons of times before, like "why do players have that green dot on their helmet?"

Question must not be that important if they don't come back to it huh???
