If you use handwriting, you can make certain words quite fancy, so they stand out. It also shows that you've spent time and care on it, which is what you want to give to him.
You can also add little doodles to make it personal.
On the other hand, if your writing is hard to read or looks scruffy no matter how hard you try, then perhaps you should type it using different fonts and putting in little emoticons. This will also show you've thought about it a lot.

My husband and I dated in high school we wrote notes back and forth to each other everyday. We did handwritten for about a month but then we discovered that typing is faster. It just depends on how long you have been together. If it is important I would hand write that letter.

Hand-written letters are more personal. If you have an illegible handwriting, then print neatly.
If, of course, you have physical difficulty holding a pen, then by all means, type.
Hint: type a draft of your letter on the computer so you can word it properly and spell/grammar check. Then hand copy the letter to your stationery or card.

I suggest that you write it by hand.
Writing by hand is the best way to write personal, informal letters to mates and boyfriends/girlfriends.
It is better to type when you are writing a formal letter that is important, it just looks alot neater.
Anyway, its your choice, but I would suggest writing that kind of letter by hand.

Handwriting is certainly more personal, but wouldn't your boyfriend prefer a personal letter by hand, anyway?
However, you clearly need help with your spelling, so if you type it at least you could run the spellchecker over it before you send it.

It depends what your handwriting is like if its messy and un readable maybe typing is better. but the letter may seem fake if you type it so persionally hand written would be better.
hope this helps ..♥

Definitely handwritten.
Especially if it's personal and important.
