Do you know about Wikipedia, the always-expanding (free) internet encyclopedia, written collaboratively by volunteers from all around the world, that ANYone can edit or correct.

I think that's awesome!!! Please stay away if you are a prankster.

The name Wikipedia is a portmanteau of the words wiki (a type of collaborative website) and encyclopedia.

There are more than 75,000 active contributors working on some 8,700,000 articles in more than 250 languages. As of today, there are 2,058,778 articles in English.

Every day hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world make tens of thousands of edits and create thousands of new articles to enhance the knowledge held by the Wikipedia encyclopedia.

I think this Wikipedia Internet Encyclopedia is one of the great things about the world wide web.

People always say, "Why don't you Google it?"!

People should perhaps say, "Why don't you Wikipedia it?"!

Don't you agree with me?

Do you use it much?

I think "♥α&ΗμτΘ&Η m!&Hrα♥" from Google doesn't like the question. If you love Wikipedia Encyclopedia feel free to celebrate this question with a star!

When you hit "search the web" to help with your YA responces, is there another web site that compares with Wikipedia Encyclopedia?!?

Wiki and Google both are different. One is online encyclopedia and other is search engine. One is intended for non-commercial purpose while other is a mix of commercial and non-commercial purpose. The information is not fully controlled and any body can post the wrong information.

Of course, for some subjects WIKI is the first choice of mine! However, Google has deployed it's servers and crawlers through out the NET it will bring in the best and controlled results.

Because Wikipedia can generally be edited by a range of people, so with that logic, most Universities will not deem it as a credible source. However, I've always made the argument that the generalization of Wikipedia was valid, and should be taken into consideration. I used to use wikipedia as a source to gain general knowledge about a topic, then I'd use that general knowledge to aid me in more deeper research for whatever it was I was doing.

Google is a search engine dude. Search engines index almost all of the new pages created on the web using search bots... Encyclopedias don't !

And wikipedia is vulnerable to vandalism and false information !
