Start early. Don't leave it until the last minute.

Different things work for different people. Make tonnes of notes, and continuously cut them down so that you just have the basic ideas. Take breaks. Don't study for more than an hour at a time or you won't be able to concentrate.

Try teaching to other people (classmates, your little brother...anyone) this can help you to understand it better.

If you are a visual learner you might benefit from making spider diagrams (example: http://www.learningtolearn.group.shef.ac.uk/takingnotes/notes_spider_espa.html )
and using different colours for different themes.

I've never been a fan of 'cramming' for exams.

My best method for preparing for exams is to go to every class; take copious notes; study every night; join a study group with other students to discuss the topic at hand; and the night before an exam get a good night's sleep.

At the time of the actual test, you either know it or you don't.

Study methods for everyone are different, but I like to write down EVERYTHING I need to know on flashcards. That way, wherever you are, you can quiz yourself constantly, without being stuck with a big book in the house!

Also, review over all the quizes and tests you've taken (especially the answers you got wrong) and that is a quick way to study.

And if you STILL don't know enough, then you can go through your textbook. Memorize the glossary, the formulas, and the key points of each chapter.

Good Luck!!

Well... depends on the type of a person. There's a best way for each person, but too many 'best ways' to list here. Generally, try to combine. Take your notes, someone elses notes, books, think as you're doing it (don't just memorize or recite stuff), get into it, even if you hate it, cause it gets easier if you actually try to understand what you are learning about. If you're having learning problems, tell us which course you're talking about, maybe people can give you a better, more specific solution.

study every day prior to the exam, but do not cram the night before. Eat well and get plenty of rest and a good night's sleep the night before the test. Have anything you will need for the test (pencils, pen, calculator, etc) ready and checked out the night before the exam.

It always helps me to have an outline of some kind...for example, if your exam is over certain textbook chapters, then create chapter outlines. If your instructor provided you any info on what areas to study, then focus on those.

And of course, there is always the usual get a good-night's sleep and eat a good breakfast.

Know what to put on the crib notes.. jk... it's different for everyone, but in my case, I've accomplished the best results when I stay on top of the class every week instead of trying to study everything in less than a week. I don't always do it, but it's definitely what has given me the best results.

Know the subject backwards, then study isn't necessary.
