Sometimes my jaw makes a popping sound when I open and close it. recently it has been very sore and swollen. It is hard for me to chew my food and open wide.

I diddnt do anything for this to happen. it just started like 1 yr ago slow steps.
Can somebody give me any kind of advice or what it could be. Thanks.

TMJ - Google it. I have it and my jaw pops, etc... Your dentist can help with that.

It can be rhematoid arthritis. Jaw is a joint and it gets affected as any other joint. The restricted motion can be because of that.
It can be that your jaw slips from the joint.
It can also be because of tooth problem. If the pulp of a tooth is necrotic and is not cured the pus can spread and you can have a puffed cheek unless you take out the exudate, have antibiotics for the infection and clean up the tooth.
Go to a doctor. Any of these conditions can get severe if you ignore them for long.

You probably have TMJ. I do and this happens to me. You must not chew gum or hard crunchy foods. There's little to do for TMJ, but you could talk to your dentist for a referral to a specialist.

sounds like TMJ, lots of people in my family (including me) have it and the symptoms sound the same.
you should go to your dentist, they will be able to diagnose that for you and if necessary tell you how to avoid aggravating the condition.

It could be TMJ. I've forgotten what that stands for, do a search on TMJ.
