Do you agree with trick or treating...

I have never let my kids go trick or treating ... I think it is dangerous for them ... knocking on peoples doors ... taking sweets from strangers ... which we always tell them not to do...
I dont think its fair on the people they call at either ... keep being disturbed ... having tricks played on them if they dont answer....
What is your take on it?

(maybe Im just old and miserable ... lol )

I HATE HALLOWEEN.

I think it's a major cheek for people to bring their kids to your house knock on the door, ask for sweets and then get huffy if you don't answer the door. What makes it worse is that it's the families that ignore you for the rest of the year and then expect you to give their kids sweets and call you miserable if you don't! Well this year I am going to answer the door and give them a sample of my cats litter tray and see how they like that! Ban the whole thing I say.

i like halloween, the 'spooky' stuff and all the horror films on,but i don't get the whole trick or treating thing. i think it's kinda weird to let your kids go to strangers' houses and ask for sweets? and you have to make such a big fuss, buying loads of candy and putting decorations out.not really worth it.i live in a cul-de-sac so we don't get that many kids coming around anyway, we just put a pumpkin in the window so if people come up here they know we've got some sweets. most of my mates go out,but i prefer to just stay at home tbh, i'm just too lazy and can't be bothered sorting out a costume :p
i think it's rude that if people don't give the kids treats they tp their houses or whatever too.and it's hard for like old people, they have to keep getting up and answering the door for these kids who just demand sweets.
gosh.i feel so much older than my age lol.

I take my daughter out trick or treating but we only call at houses with a pumpkin, we never do any tricks if there is no answer. I always put a pumpkin in the window to let the kids know there are treats here, I go out with a few neighbours and the children for about an hour, then we come back and do duckapples.

Gee, when I took my kids and now grand kids trick or treating I NEVER took/take them to a strangers house! As long as they are supervised and you inspect the treats before they are allowed to eat any I think it is fine. Also, if you don't want to participate in my neighborhood you just leave your lights off. Kids respect that. And any tricks that are played are usually played by kids who are going to play them no matter what day it is and you can't really do much about that.

Another thing that is gaining in popularity around my town is "trunk or treat". Usually it is held in the parking lot of a local church. People park their cars in a pattern usually a big circle and have treats in their open trunks and kids trick or treat in their costumes there. Again, it is always people that you know.

I think the fun of halloween is more the dressing up...I'm from Canada and Halloween is more popular there... lots of people now organize thing where they get a group of families together (usually a play group or a church group or something) and go meet in a parking lot and then they go trick or treating to all the cars then you get treats from people you trust and only people who want to participate come. Usually coined tailgat trick or treating....I love halloween anyways although I'm far to old now for trick or treating I just love to dress up.

Your not old and miserable, I have no kids but if I did there is absolutely no way on earth that I would allow my kids to go knocking on strangers doors with the expectation of getting some sweets, who can you trust these days were kids are concerned, I also think its a form of begging too, maybe I'm just old and miserable myself but its how I see it.

Trick or treat is an American's idea of Halloween and has nothing to do with the traditional event.

My son goes trick or treating with his friends but they only go to people we know in our area, not knocking on strangers doors. They do it so they can dress up for the night. It does seem to be getting more popular in the UK, we never did it when we were kids, I don't like it much but don't want to spoil my lads fun.

I've never been trick or treating since I live in the middle of nowhere but if I have kids I probably wouldn't let them go out because there are a lot of risks. Probably just let them have a party.

I love Halloween as does everyone I know. But then I'm an American and had the broom removed from my butt some 230 years ago. Lighten up you're old and miserable, oh you already said that. Have fun with it, it's a day for kids to pretend they are superheroes or ghosts and goblins. In our area, if you don't participate, you just leave your front porch light off. I know Brits are notoriously tight with a penny, but lighten up and buy a bag of candy, use your imagination on the costumes. Do it for your kids, do it for yourself, I promise if you ease up you might just laugh and actually enjoy yourself.
