I made a decision that I didn't want to live my life high on drugs.

Crystal meth.

Darn near ruined my life.

I won't ever be so cocky as to think that I've ever defeated my addiction.

I am addicted to alcohol, drugs, sex, gambling, and food. I became angry and went into isolation. I wrecked my car, received my second DUI, lost my drivers license, lost my job, became homeless, lost custody and visitation of my children, and lost all hope. I went into a 30 day inpatient program for substance abuse. Once I completed the treatment center I joined a 12 Step program, for me it's A.A. I have a sponsor and I work the Steps on a daily basis. I have 8 months of clean time and I can honestly say that my adult life has never been better. I have a place to live now, start my new job in one week, have visitation with my children back, made new sober friends, and repairing damaged relationships. I can't tell you if your an addict but if you say that your are, then what I can tell you is that there is a solution. All you have to do is be willing to take some action. You are not alone and you don't have to be.

Cold turkey. I've battled all my addictions/habits this way. My first was sucking my thumb when I was younger. I got to the age where I couldn't get away with it any longer and just forced myself to stop. Same with nail-biting. Then smoking, drinking (not an addiction exactly but I was close), over-exercising, binge-eating. All were really hard, but I just kept reminding myself that it takes 21 days to make or break a habit so I just had to get through 3 weeks then I'd be fine. And it seems to have worked.

I quit smoking years ago. My son saw a commercial about it and said to me, "mommy it says you will die if you do that so please don't." I never did it again. Drinking is another habit I would like to quit not that I do it that often, I just don't like they it tastes in my mouth but we do it occasionally and when people bring it out I do it anyway and I really hate it, but have not stopped it yet got any hits for that one?
