Usually there is a site map on any well-organized site. Try following that to see the parts.

You could also hit VIEW, SOURCE to examine each page you come to using the map.

Hosting companies restrict it, so the answer would be no. You could only explore a site as much as it would allow; if you could see a site's sitemap you could browse it's pages.

You can manually try and view a directory, if you right click an image and view the properties, if it's location is domain.com/img/ you can try and access that directory but chances are as most web servers have it you won't have authorization and will be forbidden from viewing the directory.

yes you can explore all the contents of a website...

you can use a software SurfOffline or there are many more like these floating on the web. Just use them. You can download the entire website on your computer.

Yes, Web Crawlers (Google, Altavista etc) do it all the time, it's controlled by a file called robots.txt.

Take a look at http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ or you can use something like Visio to explore all pages.
