No we shouldn't abolish black history month.
I am 40 years old, and when I was in school in the 70's, as a young child, and when we had our history lessons, it taught a lot about European accomplishments. Which I don't think nothing is wrong with that, but I use to sit and wonder, What did we as African-Americans ever do? I use to think we didn't accomplish anything, and it lowers your self-esteem.
As I got a little older, a pre-teen we was taught black history a little in school, and I realized we African-Americans performed the first open heart surgery, we invented the stop light, peanut butter, elevator, printing press, refrigerator, clothes dryer, mop, helicopter, electric lamp, roller coaster, and Helped made discoveries like the south pole, and much much more.
We wrote poetry, started all kinds of music and dances from
Rock N Roll, Blues, Jazz etc, and etc, I wish that I could go on.
I was so excited and it gave me so much pride that when I went to High School, I had a choice of which History class I could take, that I chose Black History.
I now have a daughter of whose 16 1/2 years old, and am shocked that the school she attends don't teach enough on Black History, and when Black History month rolls around from the time she was little up to her teens I have her do a report on the Accomplishments of African Americans, and of Historical Black figures who have made a mark in this world.
It makes her feel proud, and so are we.
It's still quite of bit of Blacks and Whites, and other races who do not know enough about what African Americans have also
contribute to America, and the World. It still isn't being taught at schools like it should be, so we still need Black History Month.

My answer to your question is "No." Black History Month should not be abolished by no means. Black History Month is a time set aside for the soul-searching of a NATION of hundreds of years of hatred, oppression, prejudice, racism and exploitation, to search our collective social consciousness. And, you're given 28 days to do so. lol
It is not a time to stroke Black egos. Black History Month, however, tries to seek truth that isn't touched upon is American history books. Unfortunately, the nation hasn't come to terms with its own injustices to a culture and certainly hasn't come to terms with its contributions made by African Americans.
It bothers me greatly, that as a Black man, you equate having AIDS to being Black. Those are two different issues that you should do some worthy soul searching of you own.
Try, very hard, not to let racial profiling get to you. Know, not only your Civil rights, but know your Human rights, as well.
Keep your head up! Things will hopefully get better for you, for me and the nation as a whole.

all cultures.. races and religions have their observances..and should feel free to do so. we have saint patricks day.. italian fests.. and other events so why not black history month. and yes history books did not elaborate.. or disclose lots of accomplishments by various religions and races. black children and kids of other races,.. should learn their backgrounds and accomplishments and others should be aware as well. what advantage would there be..to abolish black history month. none. people who choose to ignore the activities are free to do so.sometimes only the negative points of a religion or race are exposed leaving people to believe nothing good about others..different from themselves. that is sad

why don't we have president history month? because none of them were black...sure we have presidents' day, but you can't compare a day to a month...the time of racial injustice for blacks ended a long time ago, and it is time to get over it....racism is what we make of it...there is no such thing as white people or black people...there are only people. I'm so tired of hearing why people of African desent are so discriminated against...everyone suffers discrimination...it is a matter of overcoming and forgiving those injustices...white people were once slaves too...they were sent to sugar plantations...
Not being able to let go of anger is what seperates different races. It is time to let go and get over it, because everyone has equal oppurtunities now, no matter how much we want to believe we don't, we do. Stop blaming our failures on petty issues such as racism, because when you point one finger at society, three more point right back at you.

Slavery was a matter of economics. A free black with enough money might have a large farm, or plantation. And manning the fields with a work force that got no pay, only enough room and board to keep them in shape to work is cheaper than having to pay a competitive wage to people who could look elsewhere for a means of support. That is how slavery worked for thousands of years. It is just easier to justify treating people that way if you think they are somehow inferior.
