I don't know, it depends on what age you teach. I was kind of shy before I taught, but young kids aren't young kids aren't as judgmental as teenagers and adults. Your difficulty will come, when you will have to deal with parents and other teachers. I had an advantage 'cause I was a guy.

I am a teacher of children aged 4-11. I am generally a shy person but once you get in front of the children this just disappears. They need to learn and you are the only one there to teach them. Its a lot different than being around adults. Don't let your shyness stop you from becoming a great teacher.
Good luck

Isn't there an introductory level course in education at your college or university where you can see what it's like to be in the classroom? That is how I started my education courses and it certainly gave me a good sense of what it is like to be at the head of the classroom. Like a previous poster said, it is very different standing and talking in front of a group of kids, elementary, middle, or high school, than standing and talking in front of a group of adults, your peers. It's much easier and you tend to lose yourself in what you are teaching. So, if you are passionate about the subject you want to teach and sincerely enjoy working with children/teens then I believe teaching will be a fine career for you.

Your answer will never be answered until you are alone in a classroom with 30 children 8 hours a day for a week. All the college classes do not prepare you for teaching. Getting in the classroom and teaching ALONE does.

Your ability to teach will involve your ability to take charge of a class of children and possibly angry parents. Are you up for it? children don't sit and listen like they used to, they don't respect you b/c you're the teaching, they DARE you to teach them anything.
The reward is shaping young minds, but it's not a job for the fearful.

Your ability to teach will be directly proportional to your
knowledge of the subject...the better you know the subject
the more confidence you will have.
The shyness will always be there, but confidence will make
the difference.
Know the material and enjoy! :-)
