I have read all the previous answers with great interest.
In a Utopian world all of the above answers would be correct.
However, we have never been and never will inhabit a perfect world.
Many of these "gifts" are given with a price attached, many others exact their own price.
Many of the emotions mentioned are not ours to give.
Empathy is not something you give, but rather something you feel.
However, compassion is indeed a gift without price.
Because it is accompanied by a pure desire to alleviate pain and sorrow.
