how will this work? I am not a gamer, but I do imaging, browsing, email, word, excel, movies... wilil it run at a good speed?

if I add 1 more GB of memory to total (1.5GB) will it significantly make it faster?

Under Vista you should get a very big performance increase because Vista should not be run with that little RAM.

The above configuration will provide you with enough speed to perform the tasks you mostly do.

Adding an extra 1GB of RAM does not mean that your laptop performance will increase significantly. All the laptop/PC performance and speed depends upon a lot of factors starting from hardwares to softwares. The most common for the hardwares are, the speed depends upon Pocessor speed and RAM. DSo if you increase the RAM and your processor is the same, it doesnot guarantee that you shall notice a significant change in your speed. Upgrading the RAM here will increase your laptop performance a bit, but i am pretty much sure that it will not provide you with a significant change. But as you are going to use VISTA, its better to have atleast 1GB of Memory. its upto you to decide now

Yes, you will see a huge increase in performance. Anything your computer runs low on RAM memory, it has to move either part of the program or the data it is using to a swap file on the hard drives. Running from there is hundreds of times slower then running from RAM memory. So increasing the RAM, which reduces the need for swap file usage, it the number one best way to increase the performance of a computer.

Most computer users have been trained that if you want more speed for your computer, then add more memory. Well, this is true, in certain circumstances. But for most of the times, it really is just bad files in your registry files. Corrupted or missing registry files can make your computer too slow.
The registry is a main part of your computer's Operating System. With time, as you use Windows and install and uninstall programs, your registry will get congested and full of errors. So your computer could slow down. So, if you can clean it up this problem can be solved.Sometimes you can speed computer up by 300%. To clean up registry,You can download a software called regsitry cleaner---Clean registry, remnant, corrupt files and temp files,history,cookies,etc.. This site:
http://www.fix-system.com/index.php?t=fixsys
lists top 5 registry cleaner, you can download and scan for free.
Good luck!

If you're not a gamer, then video card and processor mean VERY little, and RAM is your biggest priority. YES, get a 1gb boost if you only have 512. Believe me, you will notice a HUGE difference.

If you wonder what RAM is for, it basically reads the information from your hard drive (The more RAM, the faster it reads, and thus, works faster.) and then sends that information to your processor which sends it to the monitor. RAM is your biggest priority, and your processor shouldn't be a problem.

Depends; on the begining will be no much difference; when your HDD will became more loaded and new programs installed it will be a notable difference; also you will not be able to start a virtual machine in that enviroment (very low memory).
Anyway, Vista on 512M will not work properly.
My advice: order more RAM. Please notice that it is not possible (usually) to mix memory types, so you need the same memory already on the PC, recomanded from the same provider (same lot).
regards,

You will have noticeable performance increase when adding 1GB memory to your notebook especially as you have Vista, which uses more memory as XP. 512MB is low even for XP.

I have recently upgraded my notebook's memory from 1GB to 2GB and the performance improvement is significant even though I still use XP. So I would say go for it!

If you add another member card to your Computer it will
give you twice as much space to use and it will make your Computer twice as fast.
I add a exert card to my Computer and it made mine twice
as fast as it was i coud not belive how much faster it made it.
It is ok go a head add you one.
