You should be aware of all the facts, not single "lucky" experiences.

My son is 4.5 months old and he loves his walker. Currently he mostly goes backwards but he loves the independence, mobility, the help standing on his own because he loves to stand! He cruises around the house checking out everything, just looking around and having a ball. I think it's beneficial in helping them learn to stand, strengthens their legs and allows them to move about on their own. I'd rather have him in a walker than laying in his crib staring at the ceiling while I'm cooking, cleaning, etc.

i don't belive the previous answer that walkers delay proper walking as both my children had one and they walked on their own at 10mths 1 day and 8mths 3wks respectively!

At 4mths it could be a little difficult for him to use it properly but by 5-6mths he should be able to cruise around well! I think it aids there leg control and strength. However you must be cautious and also use it under supervision and not around stairs. I wouldn't advise using a second-hand one either.
But i'm all for giving mums arms a break and letting your child explore his world. I loved ours as the kids could follow me around the house (I just shut the doors they weren't allowed to go through) while I did my chores and they had fun in it and I got stuff done and could then sit down and play properly with them all afternoon!
I don't see how a walker could not be beneficial to everybody!

best of luck!

Both my kids used a walker and they were walking around 10 months. I think it teaches them how to use their legs and strengthens their leg muscles. My kids would get upset when they couldnt crawl but they were mobile in a walker. Just be very careful of stairs and anything within their reach.

Walkers are very bad for babies and I think they should be banned - they don't teach a child how to walk naturally so can delay proper walking and they can also be dangerous as it is easy for the child to overbalance them.
If you really want to use one, i would say not until the child can stand holding furniture.
