wow so many.. i mostly don't listen to "hits" because whatever is in the mainstream today sucks big time (i'm thinking Fall Out Boy, P!ATD, MCR and all that Emo crap).. you've gotta dig a little deeper to find good, underground music.. here are some of my personal favorites :

Lessons Learned - Ray LaMontagne (a wonderful lyricist who conveys alot of emotion through his music)

Wait For Love - Matt White

So Sweet - Johnathan Rice

I predict a riot - Kaiser CHiefs (a great british indie rock band)
