Does it really matter? It's a fictional character in a fictional world.

Yes, I read that online from CNN. According to the story I read, she had told the writer of the screenplay for HBP that Dumbledore was gay because there was mention of a female love interest in the screenplay and she had to set them right. Having done that, she might as well have made it public, since it would have eventually come out anyway--she could control when and how it was done.
BTW, there is some inkling of this in DH, where Rita Skeeter talks about devoting a chapter in her book about Dumbledore to the Dumbledore/Harry relationship. This is not to say that there was anything improper--but that JKR did put out a hint.

I think the reason she did it was to prove a point that one's sexual orientation does not invalidate one as a wise, honest hardworking, helpful, generous, intelligent and gentle human being. Being good or bad does not depend on it. If that were true than the Malfoys were tan upstanding, ideal family. I mean, if who he falls in love with changes your opinion about him, then you definitely need to reexamine your views in my opinion. Fine for you if you dont but its a sad sad day. All the wonderful productive and helpful things he did are somehow invalidated by finding out he may have been gay??
I also think that its quite funny too because I could only imagine what all the perfect, "moral" upstanding people of society are going to do now?

I don't understand why people keep making a big fuss over it. It's only a book- the reader can interpret the characters any way that he or she wants to, so even if he was intended to be gay, he doesn't have to be.

It was in my Sunday newspaper. It said that a director tried to put mention of a previous love interest (female) of his in a movie and she passed word to the director that he was gay and his previous love interest that broke his heart was a man, can't recall the name. She told this during an interview.

yes it was on Yahoo news and I was shocked I would of never thought of him as being gay. I hope she writes that into a book I can't wait to see what she might do with it. Sounds exciting to me.

ya..she just ruined the image i had of him. she never mentions it in the books.. she should have let it end with the books. i think the only reason she says he's gay is cuz she's wanting to be politically correct. besides, who puts gay characters in a book written primarily for kids anyway? i haven't lost all respect for her but i have lost some. she now sounds like a sellout to me. other than that, i did enjoy all 7 books immensely.
