i took my friend to Romania 2year ago to meet my folks and friends, though my friend can't speak Romanian, my parents and friends made effort to speak English and made him feel welcome, while my friend was there he made no effort to learn basic Romanian like hello (buna).. is it just my friend British culture that he as no disire to learn other cultures or his he just selfish friend etc?

some times its just very hard for some one to learn new languages, he may not be able to understand. i have a lot of Spanish speaking friends, but i am unable to comprehend Spanish, i can say a few simple things, like greetings and such, but to carry on a conversation, i just can´t.
i would say if your friend desires to go, then take him, he may surprise you :)

If he plans to stay there for a long time then of course he should try to learn the language, but why learn Romanian if you're hardly ever going to use it?

your friend probably just wants to go site seeing in romania rather than meet your family and make an effort to learn your culture. its up to you if u wanna let that happen...

Did you try to talk to your friend about this? Did you try to in courage him to try? maybe he thinks he cant, or maybe he is afraid of being laughed at if he mess,s up. The main thing is - Did you enjoy his company while there? How does your family feel about him coming again? If you all agree you want him to come, Talk to him. A friend would understand.

I think that he might struggle to learn a different language.
