They just don't understand the fun of invading countries. The only way to get somebody to love the US is to destroy their infrastructure and kill most of their family and neighbors.

If you are talking about protecting the Bill of Rights as an obstacle to safety. If you are talking about respecting treaties that America signed in good faith an obstacle to safety. Then yes, I guess they are an obsticle to freedom.

I realize we live in different times. The Supreme Court has eroded the exclusionary rule, we have laws called the PATRIOT ACT, we detain suspects months even years without even giving them a hearing. With each passing day we are becoming more and more a police state. We no longer hold dear civil rights, we no longer lay claim to expectations of privacy. In our new world we even embrace this loss of freedom so long as it makes us feel safe. Ben Franklin is now rolling in his grave.

yes they are and hears why

they take prayer out of school and they took the ten commendants out of schools and the capital. they do nothing to keep our kids safe from perves on the internet or the kids that show missing. The kids that show up missing and women they don't do anything about it. We need get prayer back in school and have choices. I think we should have freedom but do you think we do?

Social serves come and tell you that you have to leave you husband. The Social servies make decisions for you. It illegal to talk about God or you go to Jail. You can go to jail for murder than talking about Jesus and that sad. Are freedom has been taking away. we need to start praying and praying for our children.

What is it with Americans these days? It seems to me that if anyone (or group) is an obstacle of our collective safety in this country, it is the chimp's current administration! His administration is constantly putting American lives at risk in the name of an oil war (call it what you want, but an oil war is exactly what we have here). The only way to stop this nonsense is to demand our representatives and senators do exactly what most people want (with or without a veto threat) - that is to bring ALL of our troops home now and let the very fragile democracy (as claimed by the chimp and others) to deal with their own problems. At the present, we have only a few soldiers protecting our homeland and we need our soldiers here and not in the Middle East.

And your source for this extraordinarily trite question?

Is it Rush Limbaugh's crystal ball?

In the 6 years Republicans owned the White Hosue, Congress AND the Supreme Court (2000-2006), did THEY keep Americans safe? If you can answer even ONE of the following quesitons, "YES", (truthfully) I will never criticize George W. Bush again.

Are the borders secure?
Are the seaports inspecting all cargo coming into the US? Are they inspecting ANY of it? In 2006, the Republican Congress removed a $650 million line item to increase inspections of cargo at our seaports. Was killing this expense keeping Americans safe?
Did your President stop the attacks on Sept 11, 2001 from occurring? Was it because he was too busy being on vacation in Texas more than half the first 9 months he held office? Would the attacks have been prevented had he BEEN doing his job, protecting Americans?
Do paper slippers at the airport stop international terrorism?
Did they capture or kill Osama bin Laden? Wouldn't you agree his continued freedom does more to "embolden the enemy" than any Tshirt slogan back here in the US?
If Bush is so interested in keeping American fmailies safe, why did he refuse to allow the formation of an independent 9/11 Commission, why did he have to be sued to provide necessary files and why did he refuse to speak to that commission under Oath? and WHY has he YET to implement even ONE of that Commission's recommendations?

"We Fight Them There, So We Don't Have to Fight Them Here". When you want to protect your home from thieves, do you go to the neighborhood the thieves live in, to keep them from coming to your neighborhood? Or do you buy guns, guard dogs, burglar alarms, etc. FOR your house, and make sure your house is locked when you leave? Does the current invasion of Iraq and the proposed invasion of Iran do ANYTHING to keep your families safe? Of course they don't. And they haven't kept American servicemembers safe either.
Besides wouldnt it be cheaper (and more effective) to fight, jail and try the terrorists who DO come to the States to commit acts of terrorism? There are many fewer terrorists willing to come over to the States, where they cannot blend in with the local populace easily (much less easily than they can in Iraq) than there are in Iraq. In Iraq, they can come and go as they please and no one can look at someone in Iraq and determine whether or not they are terrorists or sympathizers (until they attack the "Coalition of the Willing" in Iraq). In the US, these persons would stand out in the crowd, not blend in the way they do in Iraq.

The ones and only obstacles to anything good and humane in our country are evil Republican Neocons with their blood thirsty and war criminal leader, George Bush. Once America will get rid of Bush, Cheney and all the Neocons the sun will start shine brighter and birds will start singing.

No, but straw man questions are certainly an obstacle to democracy.

What makes you think that the government can protect you?
Do you truly believe that you're safe because Bush is doing things right?
You're delusional.
