I have placed an order with a mail order catalogue and the courier delivered it to a neighbour of mine because I was not in.

This was on or around 04.10.07.

I advised the catalogue that I have yet to recieve the item (perfume) last week.

The catalogue called me today to advise me that it was this neighbour that has it,

I knocked her door then as soon as I knocked the lights went off in her house.

I knocked about 5 times and there was no answer.

What should I do?

I have called the catalogue and they have creditted the account, shall I inform the catalogue and tell them to bill her because I do not want them to go out of pocket?

if they have credited your accoun thten you won't be out of pockets and its down to them to deal with it now. I would get a note put on your accout tnthough that in future they do not leave anything with you neighbour, personally i would also put a note through her door advising her that you have informed the police about her theft and see what happens!

I had this happen to me while back, although i don't know who nicked the stuff and they credited my account with no hassle

If the item was not delivered to your stated address, as far as you're concerned, you have not received it. Inform the catalogue company that your neighbour has not given you the item and it is up to them to retrieve it. They have no right to debit your account with it. If the catalogue company will not return your money, complain to the trading standards people in your area.

I find it very unprofessional of the catalogue to tell you that your neighbor has your catalogue. They should have just sent you a new one and left it at that.

Why was it delivered to your neighbor..? I was mail was is not..? Why was it not just left on your door step..

I believe the catalogue company is going to have to eat the cost of the book. You really can not get money out of someone for delivering it to the wrong address..

Tell the mail order company that you are prepared to pay for something that you have not signed for ,and the goods that you have not received. If they decide to be heavy handed with debt collectors letters, simply call the local trading standard who will deal with this matter on your behalf.
