most of them were burned on win 98 and with nero and have not been overburned. ive tried cleaning them, tried a few diff. computers, and disc recovery works slowly so will burn out my cd drives before i recover a couple.

"tried a few different computers", all Windose, right?

Try reading your CDs on Linux or MAC OS X. You must know someone who uses one of them. If not, go to the nearest Apple store.

If still no luck, the CDs are truly coasters.

As far as I know cd burn became damaged due to temperature and dust. unless it is keep in a dust proof place. But i think the original ones live much longer
