my daugher has three children by three different men and she has recently married.my question is does she need permission from two of the fathers to change the childrens surname to her husbands? as both fathers see their children on a regularl basis
her new husband is the father of one of the children

She shouldn't be changing the childrens name to her new husband they are not his children. What happens if they then split, she will have to change them back again to their old names too confusing for the children.

Yes, she should ask for permission to do this. Her recent marriage does not take away from the fact that these other men are the fathers of her children.

As long as it isnt done for illegal reasons then she can do it. Just write a letter to the school, the doctors & medical council (to get medical cards changed) and anyone else it will affect. If changing passports you need to provide a letter from stepdad saying he agrees to the children using his name and they will accept that. Permission doesnt have to be given by the fathers.

She does not need the fathers permission until the child attains it majority

The other children's names should not be changed unless their father has taken no interest in them. That is their heritage, and they have a right to maintain their true name.

The other fathers would have to agree to a name change as per US law.
