Costa Rica is very reasonable. There are beautiful beaches, fantastic cloud forests, active volcanos, lots of pretty birds--over 800, canopy tours, coral reefs to visit. The country is covered with national parks. The dry season is when most people visit Costa Rica, November to April. It is also the most expensive but by U S standards still cheap. It is also the time when it is the most crowded with tourists. Do not go over Christmas. It is packed then and accomodations can be difficult to find. Also Easter, but during Easter it is the Ticos that are the main tourists. Most of the tourist places, hotels, etc accept dollars. Compared to Hawaii, it is about 1/2 as expensive. Maybe less.

I've been to Jamaica. Loved it The humidity almost killed me when I got off the plane. It was so thick I could not even breath,
but got used to it after a while. And the beaches are to die for and the water is so warm. Not too fond of the Food, Jerk Chicken was not my thing. I do not really like Rum, but they had this Pink drink, don't remember the name, but it was great.

Hawaii! Very overrated! Also spent quite some time in the Carribean - Bahamas, Bermuda (this one I really liked), St. Kitts, and several others in that area. All beautiful and very very expensive! But I loved the experiences. CJ

The Bahamas. If I ever get to go to another one, I'll try something else like Jamaica or Bermuda or...well, when the time comes, I'll find me one.
