Clemens had the highest salary this year ($28,000,022) but since he played about 2/3 of the season his take-home is pro-rated to around $17M.
Jason Giambi had the highest total pay in 2007, $23.4M
Alex Rodriguez, rather deservedly, is the highest-paid player on an annualized basis, at $25M, but his 2007 envelope had "only" $22.7M in it, not including any MVP bonus he'll collect next month.

I think in terms of salary, Roger Clemens was the highest paid player this past season. Im not quite sure of the numbers, but if im not mistaken he made $28 million to pitch for four months. When compared to A-Rods measly $25.2 million, Clemens was actually the higher paid player.

Look it up, before Clemens, 'pro-rated' 28mil, Jason Giambi actually made the most money this season. Giambi made $23.4 mil while A-rod made $22.7
