I know that some of the contributors on here become a little offensive, shall we say, about the McCanns and do post some things that make me wince a bit. I will admit that I feel they had something to do with Maddy's disappearance, at the same time I would love to be wrong. I think that the anger that people have about Kate and Gerry leaving the children in the first place intensifies people's reactions. It makes people feel enormous resentment towards them, plus the unanswered questions and conflicting reports from some 'witnesses' create more tension. Whether 'pro' or 'anti', I feel we should debate a bit more civilly sometimes. Personally I am interested to hear the different opinions, whatever they are. But there is a lot of stuff not right about this case, and I feel the McCann's themselves have not helped by their own behaviour. Well, we can still hope for a happy ending... not likely I know, but wouldn't it be nice....

Hello,
(ANS) Its been crystal clear in my opinion that from day 1 of the Madeline McCann abduction case that the Portuguese Police have bungled the investigation. The police have little or no hard evidence to go on, they have zero real leads. The case is a shambles hence the chief investigator being sacked.
**The Portuguese Police have made matters far worse by being so secretive, which sadly hands the media & press a golden opportunity to make wild accusations up in order to fill the vacuum. Now nobody can tell fact from pure fiction.
** In my view Madeline McCann was abducted and was probably whisked out of the country within the first 24hrs, meaning that she could now literally be any where in the world.
This case has many many similarities to the case of Ben Needham who was abducted from the Greek island of Kos (I think?) when he was only 5 or 6years old, Ben is blued eyed & has blond haired & was abducted in a few moments from under the nose of his parents more than 10 years ago. Despite a high level media coverage at the time, ben has never been seen since. The case remains unsolved to this day and I think this is going to be the future of the McCann case too.
**Trial by press & media of the McCann's YES! it has looked very much like a witch hunt at times. But NOT all of the press have behaved so badly, the worst has been the Portuguese media as far as I can see.

I'm sorry, but you talk about good and evil. Would you consider it a 'good' thing to leave 3 babies alone in a foreign country especially when one is in the habit of sleepwalking? Would you consider it a 'good' thing to be out of sight for up to half an hour at a time and to be unable to hear your child crying should it wake up? Would you consider it a 'good' thing to leave them alone in an unlocked house ANYwhere? Would you consider yourself a 'good' parent if your child woke up alone, frightened, in the dark, not quite sure where he or she was, screaming for it's mum or dad but they had gone and left them? Have you ever seen a terrified child, ever heard a child sobbing it's heart out? I did, once, while visiting a friend. Her son woke up from a nightmare, something he had never had before. He was absolutely petrified and shaking like a leaf and it took his mum ages to get him to calm down. Can you imagine how he would have felt if she had not been there?
No this is not a witch hunt, it's justifiable anger and frustration that 2 otherwise intelligent, educated, professional people could be so completely irresponsible and uncaring towards 3 helpless little babies.

Metaphorical use
In modern terminology 'witch-hunt' also has a metaphorical usage, referring to the act of seeking and persecuting any perceived enemy, particularly when the search is conducted using extreme measures and with little regard to actual guilt or innocence. Some examples are found in George Orwell, McCarthyism, and Parma, Ohio.
Some sociologists have attributed the occurrence of witchhunts to the prevalent human tendency to blame unexplainable occurrences on someone or something familiar. For example, Europe relied heavily upon agriculture during the period of the witch hunts; if there were large scale crop failures, the consequences would very likely be disastrous. Crop failures often correlated with the occurrence of witchhunts, leading some sociologists to suggest that communities often took out their anger about a lack of food on community members who were unpopular (witches.) This can be paralleled in more recent examples such as the Nazi use of anti-semitism to apportion blame for economic problems. A perception of moral righteousness, by the community, is a necessary element that enables rationalization. This, however, is only one element in a complex tapestry of factors leading to the events in question.
But I think it edges closer to Lynching, I believe it's a lynch mob mentality:a group of incensed or angry people who are intent on lynching someone.

You're right. Stop the witch-hunt. Wait till the facts are known. For the record, they did not leave the children the whole night, as some would, and go off to Turkey for the weekend. They do not 'go out for beer every night' as some have asserted. When you make unwarranted accusations, it has become a witch-hunt. It's despicable and hypocrisy.

Toiet all it takes for evil to triumph over good is for a few good me to not have the balls to ask the awkward question.
There are two kinds of people in life ,there are those who follow with out question and they make great followers and there are those who question every thing and they make great leaders

I think it is absolutely disgusting some of the things that are being said on here about them, people should be ashamed of themselves and find something else to gossip about. As i keep saying i am not a supporter or detractor of them , i just don,t know what happened and prefer not to comment. In Britain people love to bring down successful people , any way possible

I think that there are more mad people around, than I ever knew or suspected. What is it with people that they take it upon themselves to crucify people who haven't been charged with any crime, never mind found guilty?
Don't we employ police, judges, juries, lawyers to do this kind of thing?
What gives another person the right to ruin a suffering couple's reputation - just because they can? I feel physically sick when I see the questions that are posed, relentlessly, day after day, and feel duty bound to try and get some balance. But I have decided that too many people are enjoying this situation far too much. They see it as entertainment, not as a real couple in trouble. Have youe ver seen the like?
Even if they are guilty, they will never ever get a fair trial, because of people like the idiots on this site.

This witch hunt as you put it is, quite frankly distasteful to all right minded people. There are detailed investigations underway by the best police force in the world, and they, have tremendous linkage with other investigative sources which possibly, the general public are totally unaware, let them do their jobs. and finalise this trauma.

Firstly, dunno on what grounds you could be reported.
You are never ever abusive. Methinks, some folks would rather a report a good post than tax their grey cells in trying to refute it... You keep them comin', Toi-et-moi...!
Yup, you're right. Will offer my tidbits in a tiny but persistent effort to keep the balance & let folks know that the civilised adage "innocent until proven guilty" still holds good.
